Learning goals

Upon completing your Bachelor’s of Accounting degree, you will be able to:

  1. Prepare and interpret financial statements for business, non-profit, and government enterprises.
  2. Use accounting data to evaluate performance and enable decision making.
  3. Describe the principles related to the design, integrity, and effectiveness of accounting information systems.
  4. Understand the role of auditing in society, including auditing procedures and reporting requirements.
  5. Apply the federal taxation of individuals, corporations and partnerships.
  6. Analyze the legal, ethical and legislative constructs which govern the conduct of business.

In addition, you’ll have the skills and competencies defined in the Curricular Learning Goals for the BBA.

Admission requirements

Students are admitted to the School of Accounting in their junior year. You must be admitted to the college in order to enroll in senior-level business courses.

Admission requirements vary depending on whether you are:

If you are an entering freshman or transferring into the university with less than 60 hours, you must apply through Undergraduate Admissions.

If you are currently an FIU student, you can specify accounting as your intended major after the completion of 30 credit hours. Please contact Undergraduate Student Services to discuss how to do this.

Degree requirements

The 60 credit hours of upper division coursework required for the Bachelor of Accounting degree is divided between 30 credit hours of business core courses, 27 credit hours of accounting, tax, and business law courses, and 3 credit hours of an upper division business elective.

A suggested two year program of study is available for your review.

Successful completion of your degree requires adherence to the academic standards of the College of Business Administration as well as the academic standards and policies of the School of Accounting.
