The Certificate in Accounting is designed for working accounting professionals who want to enhance their proficiency and breadth of knowledge in the accounting field. You will learn advanced accounting principles to develop, manage and expand business using today’s enterprise resource planning systems. The program covers the processes, methodologies, and metrics needed to measure and manage organizational performance with an emphasis on the internal auditing function. The certificate consists of six graduate classes.

Curriculum

Note: All of the courses listed are currently part of the Master of Accounting degree. All courses taken in the certificate program can be applied towards the MACC degree provided the student is admitted to the master’s program prior to the completion of no more than twelve graduate certificate credit hours.  Courses taken for this graduate certificate cannot be used for another graduate certificate in the School of Accounting.

Courses                                    

  1. Accounting Data Warehousing and Analysis, ACG 6406 – The course provides a framework for enterprises to provide comprehensive access to organization wide accounting data and to develop information systems capable of collecting, processing and arranging accounting data in comprehensive data bases.
  1. Accounting Enterprise Resource Planning, ACG 6466 - Course intends to provide students with an overview of ERP in accounting including history, concepts of ERP and role of ERP in accounting. It also provides students hands on experience with accounting application of ERP package, SAP/R3.
  1. Value–Added Tax Strategies for Business Decisions, TAX 6026 – Covers development and implementation of a tax-based framework to assist business decision makers and their advisors in the design of sound strategies when considering alternative business transactions.
  1. Evaluation of Financial Reports, Business Analysis and Valuation, ACG 6176 – This seminar examines quality of financial reports and adjusting for investment decisions. Valuation models are used to value firms given economic and industry characteristics and alternative business strategies. Prerequisite: Permission of School of Accounting.
  1. Advanced Accounting Information Systems, ACG 6437 – Covers development and control of information systems for accounting, emphasis on new microcomputer technology, software engineering, methods of data processing and database management systems.
  1. Information Technology Auditing, ACG 6625 – The course provides an understanding and application of concepts and procedures of auditing computer information systems; analysis, testing, and documentation of computer security and controls for management and financial statement reports.

Prerequisites – Students applying to the program should have:

  • a Bachelor of Accounting degree with a 3.0 GPA in the last two years of study or a 2.75 GPA in conjunction with significant related work experience. (Students without an accounting degree will be required to fulfill the accounting prerequisite courses prior to beginning the program.)

Last day for international students to submit all supporting academic credentials, appropriate test scores, and Declaration of Finances.
