We admit students to this program every fall and every spring term.
To be eligible for admission to the MSMIS program, you must
- meet the university’s requirements for admission to a graduate degree program.
- good standing with all previously-attended colleges and universities.
- a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- a grade point average of 3.0 or better based on upper-division coursework. Applicants with less than a 3.0 may be considered, but they should refer to specific program for details.
- official transcripts from all previously-attended universities (undergraduate and graduate) in an envelope sealed by the degree-granting institution(s).
- official proof of degree—a copy of the original diploma is required if the degree is not posted on the official transcript.
- for international transcripts needing translation, applicants must request two sets of transcripts: one for the translation agency and another one for us.
- applicants whose native language is not English must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS.) They must obtain a minimum score of 213 on the computer-based TOEFL (CBT), 550 on the paper-based TOEFL (PBT), or an 80 on the internet-based TOEFL (iBT). Applicants taking the IELTS must score a minimum of 6.3 overall. To obtain information about the TOEFL exam, please contact the English Language Institute 305-348-2222, or visit www.toefl.org. To obtain more information about the IELTS, visit www.ielts.org.
- international applicants are required to submit the following documents: Declaration of Certification of Finances (DCF), a bank letter, a sponsor letter, if applicable, and an F-1 transfer if they already have an F-1 Visa.
- official GMAT or GRE scores—use institutional code 5206 (FIU) when indicating test score submission. Please refer to specific program for minimum score requirements.
The Chapman Graduate School offers special GMAT preparation courses throughout the year to assist candidates in meeting the requirements for admission to our programs.
- Show high promise of success in graduate work as determined by the faculty based upon a minimum score of 500 on the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or 1000 (combination of verbal and quantitative) on the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) and a minimum 3.0 grade point average (GPA) for undergraduate study.
Application Process
Be sure to submit your application materials to the Chapman Admissions Office, even though you are applying online using the university’s graduate online application form. Doing so will expedite your application process.

2. Have official transcripts, proof of degree, relevant test scores—including GMAT or GRE scores— and other documentation sent to the Chapman Admissions Office.
3. Submit current resume of your professional experience to the Chapman Admissions Office.
4. Submit a statement of purpose—a one-page essay describing your professional goals and reasons for pursuing a master's degree at Florida International University to the Chapman Admissions Office.
5. Submit recommendation letters (optional) to the Chapman Admissions Office
Since the MSMIS program is very demanding, preference will be given to applicants with an IS background. Applicants who have majored in CS, MIS, or CIS will be given serious consideration, as will those who have MIS/CIS-related work experience. In the latter case, at least three years of relevant work experience are required; however, if the applicant's transcripts also show IS-oriented coursework, a shorter time period may be accepted. Similarly, if the applicant's undergraduate major is in a closely-related area-engineering or science, for example—a shorter time period for relevant work experience may be accepted.
